Welcome to the Cabaret Laboratory, where we explore and expand our understanding and presentation of performance through a cabaret lens.

Burlesque Foundations Series Sundays from 6:00 to 7:00PM November 6th to December 11, 2022

This series will move through the fundamentals of burlesque with Bea Lissima. Beginning with legend history and movement, we will explore basic burlesque choreography staples, movement and stage presence, costuming basics, and work on a simple group routine* to tie everything together. The group will have the opportunity to perform the routine at a Cabaret Calgary Showcase.

Solo Siren Series Sundays from 7:00 to 8:00PM November 6th to December 11, 2022

$150.00

This series will be focused on creating solo acts with the goal of performing on a main stage. Led by Bitch Sassidy, this class will explore costuming, choreography, story telling, and stage presence. By the end of the series, each student will be given the opportunity to perform their solo at a Cabaret Calgary showcase. This class is for all levels and includes two rehearsal hours in the studio after class.

Flirt Choreography Series

Mondays from 6:00 to 8:00PM November 7th to December 12, 2022

This movement-focused series is an opportunity to learn to move like a burlesque artist! The power, sensuality, grace, cheek, and play. We will focus on empowerment, precision, improvisation, presence, and a combined physical-emotional build and release. This choreography is not intended for performance, but as a vessel to explore or try out burlesque, to challenge and celebrate your beautiful self! This class is open to all abilities and expressions.

Racialized Folk Drop-Ins Sunday November 6 from 8:00 to 9:00PM Sunday November 27 from 8:00 to 9:00PM Sunday December 11 from 8:00 to 9:00PM

You're Gonna Love Me (Stage Presence Foundations) Monday November 7 from 8:00 to 9:00PM

Ivy La Fleur will tackle stage presence and audience connection in this one-hour class. Elevate your stage performance through learning exercises and techniques that tap into your inner power.

Roving and Longform Fundamentals Monday November 21 from 8:00 to 9:00PM

$25.00

Bitch Sassidy and Karla Marx will focus on transforming stage performance to roving performance and audience play as well as how to transform a 3 minute act into a 10 minute act in this one-hour class.

If at anytime a student feels unwell, we require them to not attend class. A student may return to class once they feel well. This is to protect the other attendees and the instructor from falling ill themselves.
